choosing a web hosting server?

I’m looking to start a blog and want to go with the best web hosting server possible. I’d like to stay in the inexpensive range for now, until I develop a good deal of traffic on the website. But is it a good idea to set yourself up to eventually switch servers? I’m not sure how complicated that process would be.

I also don’t want to put myself at risk of losing information in the event that something goes wrong with the server, although from my research it seems like most servers offer website protection.

Also, I would eventually like to add forums to my blog, and from what I’ve read there are some servers who work better with forums than others.

If anyone with knowledge and experience in this area would like to give their input, I would appreciate it. Please feel free to mention things that I’ve not brought up here, as I am new to blogging and may overlook some important things.

I’m 17 years old and want to start a business, where should I start?

I’ve got a plethora of new programs: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks and After Effects CS3. I’m so excited to use them and can’t let them go to waste, so…

I want to start my own internet based business or website. Something that will look good on resumes, portfolios, and earn me some extra cash while I’m at it (even if it’s just from traffic -flow). I’m pretty experienced in graphic and web design, so designing the website and putting it all together isn’t a problem for me.

What I’m having trouble with is actually coming up with a good idea for someone my age. Some examples of ideas I’ve been bouncing off my head are: Myspace layout and graphics website, t-shirt business, fashion blog, photo editing service, banner design service, etc.

Right now I need to know what’s a good idea to venture into and how should I get started. What’s something original yet in demand? It could be a blog, an actual business where I’m selling something, anything!
I was thinking of starting a base website on Myspace to gain some popularity but still have a fully functioning main website to go along with it. That would work too wouldn’t it?

Oh and my interests right now include: fashion, graphic design, journalism, etc.

How can I start a website?

Hi. I’m 16 and attending high school, and I’m looking to start a website to make some money. I have some ideas, but they aren’t really related to my questions so I won’t talk about them.

1. What is the cheapest way I can host a quality website with its own address. I don’t want it to be www.Insert hosting company here/name of my website.com I want it to have its own address. How can I do that and what price range would it be?

2. How can I get better at designing websites. I’m in web design 2 at my school right now, and I’m decent at designing websites, but the things we go over in the class are nothing compared to what you see on the internet, so where can I learn more advanced web design methods?

3. How can I get my website more traffic , how can I get it to be listed higher on search engines like google? Obviously I don’t have a lot of money so paying 1000s of dollars isn’t an option.

4. The ideas I have would take in money probably entirely from advertisers, so if I start up my website, how can I get advertisers to become interested and eventually purchase advertising on my site, and how much do advertisers pay to advertise on a kind of small website?

I am trying to make an online business that could make me six or more figures a year. I have had a couple ideas so far such as auction site for gift cards, but it would take too much work for not that much return. The other idea is a niche content website with lots of content to bring in traffic . It will also have adsense and affiliate products for me to make six or more figures a year. I have my mind set to do that site since many people tell me it is good. However, I have two more ideas and want to know if you think any one of the ideas could make me six or more figures a year. The ideas are..,

1. A social network type site where users can submit there original songs that they wrote and have rights to. Other users can then listen to the song, rate it, and or comment about the song. The users can also “share” songs with fans. To become a fan, users must confirm you. Fans get notified for each new song listing. Fans can also chat with their friends and other fans in the chat room. Each week, I’ll put on the hompage a top 10 list of all the top 10 songs found by most listened to and best rated. I know I will need to hire a web design firm and pay 5k-10k for the site. To make money, I’ll have ads. Do you think this online business idea could make me six or more figures a year?

Idea 2- basicly, the idea is to sell office chairs on a website. I create a nice looking site, use a wholesale/dropshipper to provide the chairs, and sell to make profit. Could this online business idea make me six or more figures a year?

Making a Pixel Website with a difference?

I’m thinking of setting up a pixel site thats different (quirky) for people to put their links on.

I was perhaps going to make it theme based like (http://www.bigbenpixels.co.uk/) and in the shape of a car for car advertisers or

the shape of a house for landlords and letting agencies. (this is just an idea)… or just make it similar to the million dollar page ,
I was also going to try to gain advertisers by saying a cash prize of say 50 to a 100 pounds will be won by one of them at the end of a year period.etc

I just wondered if you think this is an ok idea or will people just give it a widebirth and think “hmmm we’ve seen this before etc”

I was looking through these kinda site the other day and must admit I was nearly tempted to buy some pixels in hope of more exposure to my blogs and websites as they lack in traffic , the pixels were 5 to 10 dollars each witch I thought was a bit costly.

Im trying to think of something new and quirky and other reasons for a site like this is getting linkbacks from people when they advertise and thus making it viral.

just wondered from peoples experience in marketing and the internet if this is a kinda good idea and how to work on it and if it could bring me in any money, if not from the pixel site maybe even from click throughs to my other adsense / affiliate sites.

How to Successfully Promote a Non-Business Blog?

I am thinking about starting up a blog with a proper domain name (e.g. www.myblog.com rather than www.myblog.wordpress.com) and its own web server.

I’m also stuck with Niche ideas? I don’t want to sell anything and bear in mind I work full-time, this blog is merely a hobby to pass my spare time I’ve looked on Google but everything can be so vague like ‘write about your hobbies’. I don’t really want to write a blog about writing a blog ideas are welcomed!

All the ‘how to promote your blog’ guides I have come across have all been related to web stores or businesses, or something that makes money. Does anyone know how you’d promote?

I have less than 100 friends on Facebook/Twitter (as they are all family/good friends, not ‘networking’ people) and have discovered from experience that asking them to share links and retweet links never works; if I am lucky I’ll have one person do it, but that’s it.

Any other suggestions? I know about meta tagging and adding to search engines, but how do I really drive traffic in?

Would using a shortned URL on a print advertisiment be a bad idea, brand wise?

I’m trying to track how our print ads are doing.
I read somewhere that one way is to put a shortened URL on the ad.
For example, instead of www.mycompany.com
I go to either google URL shortner or bit.ly and creat a shortneded trackable link
Google would make it : goo.gl/Y8Hmf

I would make a different link for each trade mag (we’re a small B2B food company). This way I could see which AD, which magazine is generating the most web traffic.

Why is my website getting ZERO hits?

I have created a website about pc tablets and looking to see if you guys can give me some suggestions on how to improve it.

I dont have the best web design skills but i am pretty happy with what i have acomplished here. Its a website that i am looking to update about once a week.

What online business idea should I choose?

I really want to make six or more figures online. I have a few online business ideas but I am not sure if you think any of the ideas are profitable and could make me six or more figures a year? The online business ideas are….

Idea 1. The first idea is a website where I sell office chairs. I would get the office chairs from a dropshipper and drop ship the chairs, or I would get them from a wholesale company and ship them myself. Since many home businesses are starting, more people are buying office furniture for their home business. Office furniture is a billion dollar industry. I heard of a kid named Sean Belnick who grosses 24 million dollars a year from selling office chairs online. I know there is some competition in this industry, but not too much. Do you think this online business idea could make me six or more figures a year?

Idea 2. The second online business idea is a website on songwriting. The website would contain a ton of content through articles, how-to’s, and reviews on the topic of songwriting since I have a lot of knowledge about the topic. Once I get traffic, I would ad some ads, google adsense, and relevant affiliate products on my site to monetize. Do you think this online business idea could make me six or more figures a year?

Idea 3. This idea is cool, but since there are already sites that do this, it could be challenging. The third idea is a website where users can buy, trade, and sell gift cards for money. I would make profit by charging the seller a small fee if their gift card makes a successfull sale. Do you think this online business idea could make me six or more figures a year?

Idea 4. I like this idea a lot. The last idea is a website where users who sign up for free can submit their origninal songs (that they must have rights to). Other users can listen, rate, comment, and share songs with friends. Submitted songs can be entered into the top 10 list by having the most hits and best rates. Users can also friend eachother and chat in a chat room. Say a user submits a new song, he can choose the option to have all of his friends notified about the song. So basically the site is an online community where users can listen to new music, share, comment, post original songs for feedback, and communicate with other members. I want Yahoo to pay me for my idea.?

I have an idea for a feature that Yahoo could add to its home page; a button that would go along the left hand side over by “Answers”, “Autos”, etc.

It would generate a LOT of web hits for Yahoo, so, theoretically, it should make them money. How can I share my idea with Yahoo, and get paid for it?

If I shared my idea with them, what would stop them from saying, “We’ve already thought of that and just hadn’t implemented it yet”?

I could take my idea and turn it into a website on its own, and it would get some traffic ; but nothing like what it would get if it was right there on the Yahoo homepage. Plus, this is the kind of site, similar to Answers, that gets better and better as more people get involved; which would happen very slowly if I tried to establish it as a website on its own.

Anybody have any ideas of how I could approach Yahoo with this idea, and still make some kind of profit from it?

Where can I advertise a small business for free?

How can a smaller business reach its target market for little or no cost? Whether a business offers a product or service, the advertising challenge is the same: reaching qualified customers. Free classified ad websites are excellent sources of qualified leads but which ones? I am aware of craigslist, backpage, bjayslist, and ebay classifieds, but I am having no luck with ebay classifieds.. Any advise would be helpful.
