Paul asks…

Affiliate marketing tips…?

We are softeare comapny. We sell Google calendar + Outlook sync programs.

We are about to start affiliate marketing program.

Who will the good affiliates for our product?

Larry McCann answers:

Major internet download sites, like Handango, download.com, softpedia.com, and so on. In terms of actual stores, if your company is small, local tech stores will be fine.

Larger scale distribution would probably mandate big box retailers like best Buy and Circuit City. Look at the size of your demographic, and the budget you have, and you will be able to decide.

Sandy asks…

Affiliate Marketing Need Tips and Hints?

Can anybody give me some hints and tips to affiliate marketing? i only got 1 sale last saturday (05/01/09) and i still need a little help on how to take action with people. Is it because of lack of time at the computer and using Bill Crosby’s Twitter traffic machine, or would i really have to sell it in person? I still have tech school and work. Anybody good in this area of marketing on the computer?
I also use ClickBank to let you guys know. I Have a product on there that gives me 70% commission on the product i’m using.

Larry McCann answers:

There’s heaps of really good information out there on affiliate marketing. And a lot of it is free too. You just have to be really discerning as to make sure what you’re reading is legit. One of the big things you need to decide when getting into affiliate marketing is what your ethics are when it comes to internet marketing. There are a lot of people who make a lot of money using blackhat techniques and a lot of other questionable stuff.

I haven’t had a lot of experience with Bill Crosby’s Twitter Traffic, but a quick Google search and I have to be honest – that kind of automated system is really not what Twitter’s about… Though I’d have to look more carefully at it before I judge.

If you want some good free lessons on affiliate marketing, why don’t you check out our site:

http://www.affilorama.com

It’s free to register and we have heaps of free video lessons and tools for our members.

Good luck, and keep at it! That’s the biggest thing!

Lisa asks…

what is the good marketing tips that can use in affiliate programme ?

please show me the guide with the link.Thankyou

Larry McCann answers:

It depends on what type of affiliate program you are working with. For example if you are promoting a dating site it is always better to promote it thru social sites. If you are promoting health products make a website or blog related to health issues and use affiliation. This way it is more target based.

Richard asks…

I want to get into affiliate marketing with PPC advertising. Need some tips on getting started. Help!?

I would like to get into the affiliate marketing using Pay per click advertising. I would like to get some great information to get started. Wes

Larry McCann answers:

Firstly I would sign up for an adwords account. It seems to have the best results. If you go to my profile and follow adsense you will see the sign up button down the bottom of the page. Its free and goes straight to Google. When you get your account research your keywords and formulate your listing. It easy to do as you are walked through the process.

Questions Regarding Marketing Minds

Ken asks…

CREATIVE MARKETING MINDS? Please help!?

How should I start a pitch for selling security systems to Iraq?? Do I just start with a quote, or pictures of a roadside bombing or something?

Please help! most creative answer=10 points!

Larry McCann answers:

Start by saying “some salesmen have to sell refrigerators to eskimos, but I’ve got it a little bit easier…” Then show some slides from the war.

Steven asks…

What subsections should be included in a Marketing Strategy to re-brand and increase sales of 1 branch?

I need to write a marketing plan for one facility within a care company which is underperforming compared to the others. One reason is due to poor branding and attracting the wrong clients. What elements should I include to denote the rebranding of the centre and potentially alter the target market in peoples minds, and increase its revenue?

Larry McCann answers:

Your question is rather generalized and vague as to what aspects you are looking for.

Going solely by what you have written in your initial question, I see that you have a pretty good grasp of the problem. Restate your main question, even to yourself, and be as specific as possible. What do you mean by elements and subsections? The more specific you are, the more you will find your own answers.

Generally, your marketing strategy should state your unit’s mission and objectives, your target market (a description of user types, model user, demographics, income, geographic area, education, age, status, etc.), budget, and the four Ps (Price, Product, Place, Promotion) or your marketing mix.

Answer the following questions: What is wrong with your current branding? What are the right and wrong clients? How will you reach the right clients? What is your message? What networks (friends, referrals) do your ideal clients or users use to reach you? Is it easier to reach these networks than the general public.

Once you have done some basic work on these issues, you can determine, along with your budget, what your appropriate advertising and promotion efforts should become (e.g. Press release, radio, posters, logo, icons, slogan, news article, letter to the editor, banners, fliers, website, email lists, newsletter, face-to-face, etc.).

Keep in mind, the target of your message may differ from your target market. If your clientele reaches you mainly through referrals, you may want to target those who refer, rather than the ultimate users. This can be both cheaper and more effective.

Susan asks…

what is master mind marketing all about?

Do you work for them as a consultant or there is another line of
earning money from this web site? What do you sign up for?

Larry McCann answers:

Thats what I’m trying to figure out. What is the $47.00 for. Although it’s only $47, it still makes me leary. Times that by a million people, that sign up within a week. WOW!!!

What company comes to mind: new global marketing and the obstacles it has overcame?

· Write a paragraph on the company history, then the decision to go into the selected “New Global Market”. Why was this decision made?

· Then write a couple of paragraphs to describe the obstacles encountered.

· Finally, provide a paragraph on how the decision was affected by the obstacles.

Larry McCann answers:

When Coca-Cola was first sold in China in 1927, it was obvious to the Coke employees in China that the Coca-Cola trademark must be transliterated into Chinese characters. To find the nearest phonetic equivalent to “Coca-Cola” required a separate Chinese character for each of the four syllables. Out of the 40,000 or so characters, there were only about 200 that were pronounced with the sounds the Company needed, and many of these had to be avoided because of their meaning.

If you need another story ask the Marketing Rule Breaker

While doing the research for four suitable characters, the employees found that a number of shopkeepers had also been looking for Chinese equivalents for Coca-Cola, but with strange results. Some had made signs that were absurd, adopting any group of characters that sounded remotely like “Coca-Cola” — without giving a thought to the meaning of the characters used. One of these homemade signs sounded like “Coca-Cola” when pronounced, but the meaning of the characters came out something like “female horse fastened with wax” and another meant “bite the wax tadpole.”

The character for “wax,” pronounced “La,” appeared in both signs because that was the sound the sign makers were looking for. Anyone who knew Chinese would recognize the signs as a crude attempt to make up an arbitrary phonetic combination – and get a laugh from the meaning!

Although the Company was primarily concerned with the phonetic equivalent of Coca-Cola, the employees could not ignore the meaning of the characters, individually and collectively – even if the shopkeepers had done so. They chose Mandarin because this dialect was spoken by the great majority of Chinese. The closest Mandarin equivalent to Coca-Cola was “K’o K’ou K’o Lê.” The aspirates (designated by ‘) were necessary to approximate the English sounds. There was no suitable character pronounced “La” in Chinese, so they compromised on Lê (joy), which was approximately pronounced “ler.”

This combination for the Chinese trademark meant “to permit mouth to be able to rejoice” – showing the pleasure that could come from drinking Coke. That definition was a stroke of luck!

When this trademark was registered in 1928, most Chinese writing was vertical and was read down from right to left. The two characters at the right mean drink, then the Chinese trademark, and then Delicious and Refreshing.

And just for some background: Coca-Cola was originally sold in China in 1927. Our sales on the mainland ceased in 1949, but in January 1979 the first shipment of Coke returned to China.

Linda asks…

Is Vector Marketing/Cutco a great place to work at?

I thought Marketing meant a Grocery store. I just got excepted last week and I’m starting training next week for 3 days. I’m getting the feeling that this is not the kinda job I wanted. Is it too late to change my mind? Marketing‘s not my kind of job or answering telephone calls and scheduling appointments. I feel like I wasted my time.

Larry McCann answers:

I interviewed with them about a year ago, but after doing research when I got home, I decided to bail on training.

First, just a quick terminology lesson. Marketing encompasses a lot of things. It’s the process of doing research about target markets, and figuring out how to sell a product to that target market. Calling Vector a marketing company is somewhat misleading…it’s sales, nothing more.

Vector is a “multi-level marketing” company, which is basically a legal variation on the old pyramid scheme model. The “levels” refer to the different levels of the company; the bottom level are the sales reps, and above that the regional recruiters, etc. It’s designed to funnel money towards the top of the pyramid (except that it stays within the limits of the law, unlike a true pyramid scheme.)

I don’t want to go into a lot of detail about how multi-level marketing works, but the most important lesson for you is that only 2% of sales reps actually make money in these kinds of companies. When they quote income figures like $500 a month, that is based on a VERY slim minority of sales reps who are a) talented sales people and b) working in areas that allow for good sales (for selling expensive knives, obviously living in a wealthy area is best.)

In most multi-level companies, they make the bulk of their money from the *sales reps*, not their customers. They make people pay for things like training packages, starter kits, demo products (ex. A full knife set to demo), etc. When I interviewed with Vector, they did say that I could just put a deposit on the knives instead of buying outright, but my feeling is that there is a catch involved there.

Multi-level companies are based on keeping a constant flow of sales reps coming through the company so that they can sell them expensive things knowing full well that those people will quite a month later. The other thing they do is hire you as an *independent contractor*. They tell you that’s a good thing because it lets you be independent and whatnot, but actually it just means they don’t have to pay you minimum wage because you’re responsible for your own income, and they don’t have to give you any benefits. And since you’re not on wage or salary, it doesn’t matter how much you sell, if any at all…they will never run the risk of losing money on you because they only pay you when you earn more for them.

Sales is hard, and cold sales is even harder. The fact that you are responsible for your own lead generation makes it monumentally more difficult, and add on the fact that (since you are an independent contractor) they don’t give you any renumeration for time and money spent on transportation to get to your appointments.

In the future, look for these warning signs:
-They want you to pay money to work for them (starter kit, demo products, training materials, etc.)
-Sales as an independent contractor
-Cold sales with no company support

Jenny asks…

I’m a non-smoker but I do drink. Is it necessary for someone who is in Marketing/Sales to hav alcoholic drink?

I have decided to quit drinking, although I’m not a habitual drinker. It’s maximum 2-3 times a month. The problem is I’m an Marketing & Sales Professional.Hence,I think situation may come up when one my prospective customer is invited for a party & he minds me not having drinks with him..

Larry McCann answers:

It is kind of expected sometimes, isn’t it? You don’t have to though. Just order something else. If someone asks, you can just say “I’m not much of a drinker”. This is pretty safe because it doesn’t imply that you are an alcoholic, or that they would offend or tempt you if they have a drink, so they can feel free to have whatever they want.

You can also volunteer to be the driver, then they will be glad you are not drinking.

Questions Regarding Free Marketing Traffic

Paul asks…

does anyone know any traffic generating secrets they’d be willing to share?

I’m new to marketing and have been using social bookmarking to get the word out about my blogs and articles and such. but I’m still not selling anything yet. I also link like crazy and I use yahoo answers for a little traffic but again I just don’t think I get enough traffic. If you know of others ways to help me get traffic for free please let me know.

Larry McCann answers:

I just started using Link Referral= http://www.linkreferral.com/adwel.pl?oldrefid=170270. They are awesome. It is a website service that provide free traffic to your website. They also have a tight knit of community members that post/answer questions that are related to marketing tips. I am very satisfied with them.

Mandy asks…

What are some ways i can advertize my business for free?

I am starting an online business and wondering if anyone can suggest some ways i can market it for free or at a very low cost. Please dont suggest pay per click. I think that is such a rip off because you could direct tons of traffic but it is not guaranteed that anyone will buy.

Larry McCann answers:

Hi there,

There are many places online that offer you the ability and affordability to post your new online business. One good way to gain back links and generally traffic to your site is through Directories. Web directories and article directories are a great way to advertise for FREE or near free! You have to post to many of them to start seeing the results of your labor. Posting to only one directory is not going to cut it! Sorry, but you have to stay consistent and get the word out about your business to as many online venues as possible. Here is a list i would consider:

1) Web Directories
2) Article Directories
3) Forums
4) Web 2.0 Sites (Social Sites e.i. Twitter, diggs, etc..)

And many other ways that you can advertise for FREE and get the word out about your biz. You just have to stay on it and make it a habbit to submit your site to ALL of the above mentioned. Anything FREE means that you will put in ALL the necessary hours, time and effort to keep it free if you don’t want to have to pay for someone to do this tedious task for you OR pay a service like PPC to drive traffic to your site and skip all the above mentioned!

For starters, list your site at this directory provided in the resource box below. And while you are at it, write up a nice article about your business services and publish on the site as well! The more content you have and provide about your site and business, the more traction you start to build and that includes back links pointing back to your site! In turn, more traffic, leading upto more SALES! FOR FREE!

Take Care,

John asks…

Should we do what Reagan did with air traffic controllers and fire all teachers?

They make over 100 thousand and only work part time.

If we fire them, can we turn our schools over to private enterprise and the free markets will work them out?

Larry McCann answers:

Three things to say here

1. Teacher salary begins around $35,000 a year (pretty crappy for a college education)

2. The only $100,000 a teacher see’s is the balance on their loan for such an education!

3. Reagan started this whole thing when he fired the air traffic controller, the middle class has been evaporating ever since!

Robert asks…

How can I get traffic to my website?

I am just starting out in Internet Marketing and created my own website. But I can’t seem to get any traffic to it, or no one is signing up for the free social networking site I am promoting. It doesn’t make any sense. Even my own family and friends won’t sign up. What am I doing wrong?

Larry McCann answers:

It took Facebook and other big social networking sites years to obtain the popularity it enjoys now. Not only that, as there was so many social networking sites, only few we have heard of due to their superiority. If you want your website to thrive in the highly competitive medium, you need to start offering new features, that no one else is offering, you need to start by marketing your website as a local social networking site, maybe in your state or in your country. For example many might use your website instead of facebook, if they wanted to interact with people in their region only instead of the vast number of people on already established social networking sites.

However, if you are trying to to get traffic to your website through search engines, you need to optimize your website to obtain higher ranking in search engines, here are some good ideas to help you do so:

1st try to get more back links to your website and the easiest way to do thats is by submitting your website to free web directories such as:

http://www.lii.org

http://www.dmoz.org

http://www.surformation.com

Backlinks provide higher ranking in search engine, but most importantly, links drive direct traffic to your website when visitors clicks on your links.

2nd Try promoting your website on social networking and internet communities such as

http://www.twitter.com,

http://www.digg.com,

http://www.stumbleupon.com

This is where web surfers are spending a big deal of their time, so have your share of visitors.

3rd and most importantly, provide quality content, this is an indirect way to get back links by genuinely driving people to link to your website.

4th make sure that your meta tags ( web page titles and description) match the content of your pages, this is a huge part of search engine optimization and drives traffic from search engine to your website

Joseph asks…

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to market a website? How to get more traffic to a site?

I just started a new website I was wondering if anybody has a suggestion on how to market it and how to get more traffic. I dont have much money so something free or cheap!! Thank you so much.

Larry McCann answers:

There are many ways to market a website and driving traffic to your site. Below are some free solutions:

1) Write articles on whatever your website is offering. If you have a dating website, write about dating and submit your articles to free ezine sites like ezinearticles.com or goarticles.com. This will get you listed on the search engines faster and drive some traffic to your site.

2) Have a Blog on your website. Blogging help drive traffic to your website too, just make sure that you blog often. Put a sitemap and rss feed on your site. Search engines love blogs as they are alway filled with updated contents.

3) Join forums that are related to your website and be active with your postings. Put your website address link as your signature which will drive traffic too.

4) Free listings

5) Create a video and upload it onto googlevideo and youtube.

6) Reciprocal links with other websites. Eg. Linkmetro

7) Make a sitemap and submit to google and yahoo

and many more…

I’ve used the methods that i’ve mentioned on my website and has gotten me PR2 Page Rank within’ 75 days.

You can find some interesting tips on my blog at http://internetmoneyblog.com

Hope it helps and good luck to you on your website.

Betty asks…

How do I get free quality traffic to my site fast, I know there are some secrets out there.?

I want unique visitors to my adsense sites, there is nothing to buy just quality information on various topics. There has to be somewhere you can go to input your site address and submit to get results for free. I really want to break into this market and any help would be great. I will do paid ads as well, but I have to make some money to be able to spend some money. Here are my sites:

http://www.epropages.com/fengshui

http://www.epropages.com/seasonings

http://www.epropages.com/aromatherapy

Larry McCann answers:

Like you said, you first have to make money in order to be able to spend it. That means you should start out by getting free traffic to your website. I actually know of a good source that helped me get started with a decent amount of traffic to my own website. I’ll post it as my source so that all the sensitive people in here won’t start reporting me. Hope it helps and good luck in all your ventures!

James asks…

Anyone know of any other site like Traffic Geyser?

Does anyone know of any site similar to Traffic Geyser? That’s free? Please don’t say TubeMogul, I have already tried them and they suck. They don’t allow marketing videos. Please help. Thank you!
Thanx but im also looking for video promotion.

Larry McCann answers:

TubeMogul does allow promotional videos, but many of the sites it submits to will delete such videos and some sites try to get rid of all article-to-video videos.

I don’t recall which sites on Tubemogul do and do not accept which types off-hand, but YouTube, DailyMotion and a couple others accept most submissions. Don’t use copyrighted music in your videos.

I submit to about a 100 sites automatically with a desktop software. I use Tubemogul for about 5 sites and the software for 90 or so others. It works.

Susan asks…

How do you get free web traffic to your site?

I just started a selling my products (consumer electronics) online and I would like to know some cost effective ways of driving traffic to my site. I don’t want to continuously blog to try and get a search ranking. Even if I blog 24-7 can I really compete with the ad dollars saturating the internet in my market? There must be several quick ways to boost traffic and bring qualified leads to my site. Pay per click and redirects don’t seem to be doing the trick.

http://directtechdepot.com

Larry McCann answers:

First make sure your on-page factors are ok. The first thing I saw that you need to correct is your title tag which currently says

“Featured Products – Nintendo Wii, Mp3, GPS, DJ Gear,Computers Store”

The phrase “Featured Products” is a waste of space because no one really types featured products in their search engines if they want to buy Wii. If this was my site, I would use “DirectTechDepot: Brand Name Electronics Discount Prices”

You can use pay per click advertising in the search engines to reach audiences looking for your products. You can use Google Adwords http://www.google.com/adwords or Yahoo http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com

Here are some shoestring marketing ideas that can help you get the visitors you need at the least cost possible:

1. Create the best content you can with the best products you can possibly offer. Your content is your best advertisement – if visitors love your content, then they will go back and spread the word to others.

2. Make it easy for users to recommend your site. Viral marketing is very important — and easy to tap on the Web. But give your users the tools. Get a Recommend this Site script from websites such as cgiscripts.com and similar directories of scripts. Some even go as far as giving incentives to those who recommend the site to their friends. If only 10 people go to your site, but these 10 people invite 10 more – that’s additional traffic that you get for FREE!

Recommend Site Scripts (various) http://php.resourceindex.com/Complete_Scripts/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/
Big Nose Bird Recommend this Site http://bignosebird.com/carchive/birdcast.shtml
CGI Resource Index http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/
Hostscripts http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Site_Recommendation/index.html

3. Rank well in the search engines (organic search results, not the pay per click). SEs can be a big source of traffic. The key is to create the best content in your niche. If you have good content, other websites will gladly link to you and offer your site as a resource to their audience. Check the on-page factors and be sure to get linked from authority sites in your topic area.

If you are going to read only one piece on search engine optimization, I suggest you read Brett Tabke of WebmasterWorld.com’s “Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone: 26 steps to 15k a day.” http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/2010.htm

4. Send out press releases. While outfits charge as much as $650 per release, there are free press release submission places on the Web. Press releases allow you to (a) attract media attention; (b) get more back links to your website without sending each website an email request; and (c) get more visibility especially if your press release gets in Google News or Yahoo News.

5. Submit articles. Write articles and submit them to websites accepting author submissions. You get exposure for your business; establishes you as an authority in your field, and allows you to get backlinks for your website. If 50 websites publish your article and it contains a link back to your website, then you easily get 50 links from a single article. The more links you have, the greater your chances for increasing your search engine rankings.

Here is a comprehensive list of where to submit your articles http://answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylt=AhzreGmnCUicOoyedqypscUjzKIX?qid=1006022407481

Read the article ” How To Sell More on the Web: 30 Tips To Increase Conversion Rates For An Ecommerce Site ” http://www.powerhomebiz.com/092006/ecommerce.htm for tips on how to improve your conversion rates.
